Conference on Harmonized Development of Legal and Regulatory Systems for 
Electronic Commerce in Asia and the Pacific: Current Challenges and Capacity Building Needs

On the 7th July 2004, the UNESCAP convened E-Commerce Law experts from the 
Asia Pacific region to discuss how to assist the governments of the less developed 
countries in the development of their legal and regulatory systems for E-Commerce.  

Most significantly, 6 of the 26 experts invited to the conference are Fellows and Associates
of CAPTEL. They are:

1. Prof Hong Xue (Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong) CAPTEL Associate Fellow - Current Challenges in E-commerce Legal and Regulatory Systems Development in Asia-Pacific - The China Case  and Dispute resolution for e-commerce: the experience and the prospective of China;

2. Mr Pavan Duggal (India) CAPTEL Associate Fellow - Regional harmonization of e-commerce laws and regulatory systems in South Asia;

3. Mr Goh Seow Hiong (Business Software Alliance) CAPTEL Associate Fellow - Current Challenges in E-commerce Legal and Regulatory Systems Development in Asia-Pacific - The Singapore Case (Presentation) and (PAPER)

4. Mr Rajesh Sreenavisan (Messrs Rajah & Tann) CAPTEL Associate Fellow - An analysis of e-commerce legal and regulatory frameworks of developing countries in East Asia Pacific (EAP)

5. Prof Toh See Kiat (CAPTEL Fellow) - B to B security solutions ; and 

6. Prof Harry SK Tan (CAPTEL Director) -  Best practices of legally securing e-commerce (Presentation) and (PAPER)

- Rajesh was the opening speaker at the conference reporting on the findings of their research conducted on behalf of the World Bank on the E-Commerce Frameworks of selected countries in the region.

Day 2 - SESSION #9 PANELISTS - "Legal Issues related to online security for E-Commerce" - Prof Toh See Kiat, Prof Harry SK Tan and Luc Mensah. Harry spoke on the Best Practices of Legally Securing E-Commerce while See Kiat spoke on B2B Security.

 


Also at the Conference were Marianne Law, Nicholas Langford and Chun Li from New York Law School with Prof Tan. The three graduate students were interning at CAPTEL for the summer of 2004
